Effects of Cultivars and various Treatments on Storability of Grapes



Abstract
This study was carried out to enhance the storage life of grapes, and to investigate the factors affecting storability. The storability of major six grape cultivars, ¢¥Campbell Early¢¥, ¢¥Kyoho¢¥, ¢¥Muscat Bailey A¢¥, ¢¥Tano Red¢¥, ¢¥Sheridan¢¥ and ¢¥Daebong¢¥ grown in Korea, were compared. ¢¥Sheridan¢¥ and ¢¥Campbell Early¢¥ had longer storage life than others. Ca (5%) treatment controlled berry abscission but had some injurious effects on appearance in ¢¥Sheridan¢¥ and ¢¥Muscat Bailey A¢¥. Ethylene production was low in ¢¥Sheridan¢¥ and ¢¥Campbell Early¢¥ which showed long storage life. The treatment of scrubber reduced the rate of abscission significantly. Sulfur dioxide fumigation was very effective in reduction of decay, which was important limiting factor in storage life.
